A significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines all over the world. Even though women have made tremendous progresses towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still underrepresented in these fields. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls will make a crucial contribution not only to economic development of the world
Every year 11th February marks a very important date for celebrating girls and women in science and technology.
In this year’s edition of the celebration, Best Bee and FICRE both NGO for supporting girls and women in every sphere of their live brought together a team comprising of three Doctors; Dr. Tracy Okine, Dr. Ama Amaning–Darko and Dr. Eyonam Abiti and supported by Mr. Abed Awuah-Gyua, Mr. Benjamin Anderson, Mr. Benjamin Offeh and Mr. Denis Pwafuga.
The team visited Paanor, a village in the Greater Accra region to encourage and also mention to girls the opportunities that avail to those who wants to pursue careers in science and technology. Science and technology is essential for our development hence it should not be seen as an area for boys and men but instead also for girls and women”.
